DUANE ALT
Dazzling sunshine, fields of flowers, breathtaking views and lush
vegetations are his inspiration. His schooling in the Beaux Arts style of
painting have given Alt a solid background in traditional Impressionism to
which he adds his own exuberant style, full of freshness and life..
Born in Nebraska in 1935, but raised in
Southern California from an early age. His first job mixing paints for the
scenery departments at various Hollywood studios was enough to capture his
imagination and give him a direction for his art and his future.
In the late1950's Alt got his break and
worked as a free lance artist for Walt Disney on the conceptual team which
envisioned several beloved Disneyland rides and attractions including New
Orleans Square, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, The Jungle
Boat Cruise, and Cinderella’s Castle.
This eventually led Duane Alt onto
a successful 20+ year career working as an Art Director and Production
Designer with MGM, 20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers Studios. Alt
worked with such great Hollywood producer/directors as Alfred Hitchcock,
George Stevens, Stanley Kramer, and Irwin Allen. His body of television and
film work led Duane Alt to be associated with important films and television
such as The Birds, Hello Dolly, The Towering Inferno, The Poseidon
Adventure, and M*A*S*H.
While filming a movie in Paris he was
formally introduced to the French school of 19th century Impressionist
artists. He returned to Europe again and again to further his schooling in
traditional French Impressionism. The romantic charm of Paris, the quaint
villages of the Barbizon, the rolling hills of Provence, and the small
inlets along the azure seas of the Mediterranean continue to influence his
work.
Shortly thereafter Alt retired from the
studios to pursue his own passion for painting in the French impressionist
style, while searching to make his own mark on the world artistically. Alt
is not a "formula" painter like many artists of today. His talent is
visceral, and his creativity is purely instinctive. His art reflects this
free spirited and spontaneous style. You will never see the same composition
or color palette in any of his work.
In 1993 and again in 94, Alt was one of
the only American's ever invited to exhibit at the “Le Salon” Societe des
Artistes Francais Grand Palais de Champs Elysees-Paris. On both occasions
all three of Alt's submitted paintings were chosen to be part of this
exclusive juried show.
