RON & SHEILA RUIZ
Both natives of Southern California, Ron and
Sheila married in 1984. While each was involved in other careers at the
time, they found they shared another love, the world of fine art. Their
artistic backgrounds paralleled as they were both raised in families that
provided a strong influence in art from a very young age.
Ron's early artistic life was guided by his mother, who was an artist for
Warner Brothers and Hanna Barbera Studios. Ron obtained a BA degree from the
California University system, and worked professionally in engineering
design and drawing, graphics and manufacturing, thus perfecting a critical
eye and practical application of spatial relationships, form and
perspective.
Sheila's love for art was also fired by her mother, a very prolific and
talented painter. Her interest in art began at the age of eight while
attending art classes with her mother. She continued her art education into
her teens and early twenties, learning from many well-known California
artists and attending private art schools as well as University classes.
Sheila transformed that education into a career in marketing and
advertising, where she expanded her skills in design, composition, layout
and photography.
Early in their marriage, Ron and Sheila rekindled their artistic interests.
Their first works were oil on canvas. At one point, Ron had put aside an
unfinished picture. Sheila noticed it had been "abandoned" and, liking its
initial start, decided to complete it herself, with Ron's blessing. That
picture now hangs in their home as a reminder of their first "collaborative
effort."
Ron was first to explore the three-dimensional art form. He loved the
tactile feeling and "hands-on" experience of working with clay. With
extended study in sculpture and anatomy through private and university
classes, Ron translated his experience and talents into bronze sculpture. He
encouraged Sheila to join him in this exciting art medium - which she did -
and it was not long before they were working as a team.
Ron and Sheila's thoughts and choice of style in bronze sculpture were
alike...initially choosing the human form, highlighting grace, movement and
energy. The Ruiz's desire to create unique sculpture also includes the use
of colorful, luminescent patina to enhance and individualize each piece.
Their work has remained a collaborative effort. The not only share their
ideas about the next sculpture they will create, they actually work on each
others image...making their sculptures a true joint project. The most recent
addition to their collection is a body of work entitled "Natures
Inspirations", featuring butterflies and tortoise. Following Ron and
Sheila's love of creating exciting, energetic, colorful and elegant
sculpture, the Ruiz's have also added a touch of whimsy to this new group.
The Ruiz's have won numerous awards in juried shows and have been featured
in news articles and art publications. Their sculpture is included in the
private collections of corporations and motion picture and sports
celebrities, and they are represented by major art galleries throughout the
United States. Together they have lectured and consulted with galleries and
art groups around the country on bronze sculpting and foundry practices.
Together Ron an Sheila's creative synergism has produced art works that have
had a major impact in the art marketplace. They have created sculptured art
that is both classical and dynamic...art to be enjoyed by every generation -
for generations.
